AI Walkthrough — Guided Inspection Narration
AI Walkthrough lets you narrate your inspection out loud while capturing photos. Instead of typing notes or tagging damage after the fact, you describe what you see as you move through the property. The AI transcribes your voice, segments the audio by photo, and extracts structured findings from your narration automatically.
This is the fastest way to document an inspection in the field.
What AI Walkthrough does
During a walkthrough session, three things happen simultaneously:
- You narrate — speak naturally about what you see: damage type, location, severity, materials, observations
- You capture photos — tap to take a photo at any point during narration. The audio segment around that tap is linked to the photo.
- The AI processes — after the session, the backend transcribes your audio, associates each segment with the corresponding photo, and extracts structured findings from what you said
The result is a set of findings tied to specific photos, generated from your own words rather than from image analysis alone. These findings appear in the Analyze tab alongside any AI damage detection findings.
Step-by-step: running a walkthrough session
- Open the job in the Estimatics iOS app
- Go to the Capture tab
- Select AI Walkthrough mode — tap the walkthrough icon to switch from standard photo capture to walkthrough mode
- Choose your language — select the language you will be narrating in. The transcription engine supports multiple languages.
- Start narrating — tap the record button and begin speaking. Describe the area you're in, the damage you see, and any relevant details.
- Tap to capture photos — as you narrate, tap the shutter to take photos. Each photo is linked to the audio segment captured around that moment.
- Finish the session — tap stop when you're done. The session uploads and begins processing.
You can run multiple walkthrough sessions per job — one per area, or one for the entire property.
Session tracking
While a session is active, the app tracks:
- Coverage percentage — how much of the property you have documented so far based on areas visited
- Alert count — notifications about missing coverage or quality issues
- Missing items — areas or standard inspection items you have not yet addressed
These indicators help you avoid leaving the property with gaps in your documentation.
Session states
Each walkthrough session moves through a lifecycle:
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Idle | Session created but recording has not started |
| Recording | Actively capturing audio and photos |
| Processing | Session uploaded — AI is transcribing and extracting findings |
| Complete | Transcription and findings extraction finished — results available in the Analyze tab |
| Failed | Processing encountered an error — check your connection and retry |
You can view session status in the Capture tab under the walkthrough history.
Tips for effective walkthroughs
The quality of your findings depends on the clarity of your narration. Follow these guidelines:
- Name the room or area first — "I'm now in the master bedroom, looking at the south wall." This gives the AI location context.
- Describe damage specifically — say "three-tab shingle with a quarter-inch hail impact, granule loss exposing the mat" rather than "there's some damage here."
- Mention severity — "This is significant cracking across the entire ceiling" vs. "there's a crack."
- Reference surfaces and materials — "The vinyl siding on the west elevation has two impact marks" tells the AI exactly what to record.
- Speak at a natural pace — you don't need to slow down dramatically, but avoid rushing through descriptions
- Take photos at key moments — snap the photo while you're describing the damage so the audio segment aligns with the image
Plan limits
AI Walkthrough is available on all plans with the following session limits per month:
| Plan | Sessions per month |
|---|---|
| FIELD | 5 |
| SCOPE | 30 |
| CERTIFY | Unlimited |
A session is counted each time you start and complete a walkthrough recording, regardless of duration. Sessions reset on your billing cycle date.
Frequently asked questions
Can I edit findings generated from a walkthrough? Yes. Walkthrough findings appear in the Analyze tab just like image-based findings. You can edit severity, add notes, dismiss false positives, or adjust any field.
What if my narration was unclear in a section? The AI does its best with the audio it receives. If a segment was too quiet or garbled, the finding may be less detailed or may not be generated at all. You can always add a manual finding for anything the AI missed.
Can I use AI Walkthrough offline? You can record the session offline. The audio and photos are stored locally and will upload and process once you have a connection.
